The 2011 womens soccer season looks very promising, according to Coach Gino Leon. After a succesful 2010 season, the Cardinals are pointing to the WCAC crown with a strong and experienced group.
The team will display an attractive and offensive minded style of soccer led by seniors,Katrina Guillou, Gabby Goddette, Gabby Barowski,and junior striker Karina Azar (who along with Guillou led the team in scoring last season) in the forward line.
The midfield which Coach Leon points to as a very deep group of talented players, will be led by seniors Anna Wissler, and Ciana Puglise, along with juniors Emily Masi, Lyndsay Martini, Katie Necochea, and sophomores Meaghan Reilly, and Kenza Mdhari Aloui. Leon anxiously awaits the return of sophomore Adrienne Maday who is nursing an ankle injury.
The defense will be anchored by seniors Helena Barber, Hannah Thomas,Kate Fogarty, and M.J. Foster,with help from juniors Emily Gupton, Nicole Bond, Charlotte Buising, and sophomore Natalia Barrow. The goalkeeping duties will be shared by juniors Michaela Mulokey, and Brenna Heaney.
” I feel this group of girls is an extremely talented team that will show a possession style of rarely seen at the high school level. We are looking forward to get the season started, and hope to bring some fans out there to fill the stands, and watch the beautiful game as it’s supposed to be played.” said the Cardinals new coa h, Coach Gino Leon.
The Cardinals will open the season on Saturday, Sept 10th when they travel to Episcopal High School for a 2pm start for a varsity only contest.
