Mr. Ty Gardner, a recent graduate of the George Mason athletic training program, has joined the Bishop Ireton sports medicine staff as an assistant to head certified athletic trainer, Mr. Matt Horton.
Ireton athletic director Bill Simmons was effusive in his enthusiasm for Gardner joining the staff. “We now have more than 40 teams and nearly 600 athletes in the program. Mr. Horton is often overwhelmed during the day with trying to prepare athletes for games while at the same time trying to conduct the physical therapy necessary to aid in the recovery of injured athletes. Ty will really improve our capabilities, including coverage of practices.”
The George Mason grad began his duties on September 8th and supervised his first Cardinal event on Saturday when the field hockey team hosted Bishop O’Connell on Fannon Field. He got an early baptism to the rigors of the job when a JV football player broke his femur earlier in the day at practice.
“I look forward to a very exciting year for Bishop Ireton athletics. I will do everything in my power to ensure that is a safe and successful year.” promised the Gainesville, Florida, native.
