2011 Ireton football set a number of team records enroute to an 8-3 season.

On December 6, 2011 the coaches, players, and family members of the 2011 Bishop Ireton Varsity Football Team gathered to celebrate the team’s great success and return to the Virginia Independent School Football Association (VISFA) Playoffs.  More than 150 shared a wonderful meal at the Fort Belvoir Officer’s Club as Coach Tony Verducci and his staff presented varsity letters and recognized the superior performances and contributions of several players before saying farewell to a talented group of twenty-three seniors who completed their time as Cardinal football players.

The team, which achieved an overall record of 8 – 3, established new school standards for consecutive wins to open a season (7) and most points scored in a season (317).   Along the way junior Quarterback P.J. Zingler became the school’s all-time leading passer, senior Malcolm Westbrook became the all-time leader in pass receptions, senior Moses Webb established the single season touchdown record (16), and junior running back Brandon Williams-Price rushed for more than 1,000 yards.  Coach Verducci became Bishop Ireton’s all time leader in wins this fall as well.

Seniors were presented with personalized fleece blankets and scrapbooks as a means of recognizing their individual sacrifices and contributions to the football program.  Coach Harry Busch was also presented a blanket that commemorated his five years of leading the JV team, including the last two as Head JV Football Coach.  Seniors Malcolm Westbrook and Moses Webb were named as the Co-MVPs and Eddie D’Antuono identified as the team Cardinal Award winner.  Jacob Ramey (offensive line), P.J. Zingler (quarterback), Hudson Sullivan (linebacker), Andrew Lutterloh (defensive line), and Aurelien Guillaud (punter) were recognized as the most outstanding players on offense, defense, and special teams.  Junior defensive back Justin Paige and senior receiver Merid Merid were name the most improved players, while senior linebacker Andrew Bladen and senior guard Patrick O’Connell were honored as the “12th Man” who set outstanding examples by their spirit and effort.

Coach Verducci presented gifts to senior parents who served on the Football Team Parent Executive Board and the players presented each coach with a framed team photo.  Coach Verducci will attend the VISFA Coaches Meeting on December 14, 2011, where several Cardinals are expected to receive all state recognition for their outstanding play this fall.  He and the coaches will conduct Player/Parent/Coach meetings during January to establish expectations for the 2012 season.  Current students and applicants who would like more information about the Cardinal Football Program can contact Coach Verducci at
