Noe’s 25 leads Cardinals past Huskies, 68-64

Senior Dan Noe (3) led the Cardinals with 25 points in the win over Flint Hill Wednesday.

The Cardinals defeated Flint Hill 68-64 in a thriller that see sawed through an action packed contest.  On a two-pointer from Patrick Moseh, the Cardinals gave Ireton its lead in the fourth quarter with :07 remaining in the contest.  Dan Noe sealed the win after a Husky turnover with a pair of free throws with just over 1 second to play.

The Cardinals and Flint Hill were tied up at 30-30 at the half, but the Cardinals gained some steam during the final two quarters.  The Cardinals had a solid finish, adding 21 points in the final quarter. With a total of 23 fouls,  Flint Hill was on the attack over the course of the game.

Daniel Noe had a big night from the field, making 64% (7-for-11) of shots attempted as well as 67% (4-for-6) of threes attempted.  He also shot well from the line, making 88% (7-for-8) of free throws attempted.  Patrick Moseh poured in 20 and Jamie Senff added 11 for the Cardinals.   Jeremiah Brooks (7 points), Ty Quarles (3) and Nicholas Schmelzer (2) rounded out the Ireton scoring.

John Whitaker had the edge for Flint Hill’s offense, scoring 19 points, including 11 during the fourth period.   Austin Jones put two three-pointers on the board and scored six points total. Also putting points on the board for Flint Hill were Matt Kennedy (7 points), Britton Anderson (4), Dillon Foley (2), Tyler Femi (2) and Will Peterson (2).

Unofficially, the home team outrebounded the Oakton visitors by a 30-22 margin and shot a blistering 50% from the field compared to the 43% the Huskies earned on 56 field goal attempts.

The  Cardinals ( 2-0) have perhaps their biggest challenge of the home season when they open the WCAC schedule with the Washington Post’s top ranked Panthers of Paul VI, who are making their annual visit to Godley Gym.  Tripleheader action begins at 4pm with freshmen, the varsity tipoff is slated for 7:30.  Advanced ticket sales are available in the Bishop Ireton athletic department 8am to 5pm.
