US Lacrosse recently released their 2011 list of hugh school all American girls’ lacrosse players as well as their Academic all-Americans.  Sarah Rupp, a 2011 graduate, was the Cardinals’ selectee.

Sarah is a four-year starter who served as a team captain and was a true leader on the team, according to Coach Rick Sofield. He elaborated by saying,  “She is the type of player, but more importantly, the type of person, who represents the highest ideals of Bishop Ireton lacrosse.”  Rupp will  attended UC-Davis next year where she has earned a scholarship to play lacrosse.

Bishop Ireton’s  five Academic All-Americans are: juniors Aubrey Gartlan; Margaret Nealon; Ciana Puglise; and Madelyn Zeigler, and  Rupp.  To be eligible for Academic All-American, the player must be a junior or senior who “exhibits exemplary lacrosse skills, good sportsmanship on the field, and represents high standards of academic achievement in the classroom.

The US Lacrosse regulations say the player should also have left her mark beyond the lacrosse field and the classroom by making significant contributions of service to the school and/or community.  The player must also have a cumulative GPA of 3.6 or higher (out of 4.0) in more than 50% college prep, honors, or AP courses.

“I am very proud of our All-American and more so of our Academic All-Americans.  Lacrosse is important to our girls and they work very hard in the off-season and preseason to be their best, but here at Bishop Ireton Faith, Family and Academics are their priorities. Aubrey, Margaret, Ciana, Maddie, and Sarah represent those ideals both on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.” commented a proud Sofield.
