School mark falls in WCAC track championships

Sophomore Ricca Graham was a leading point scorer for the Cardinals at the WCAC track & field championships at Good Counsel Saturday.

The WCAC track championships, won by Gonzaga on the boys side, Elizabeth Seton on the girls side, brought out some of the season’s best efforts from the Cardinal track and field team over the weekend, led by a School record-setting performance in the 4×200.

The boys 4×200 meter relay team lowered their record time 1:34.34, which earned a 4th place finish. The speedy team of Tavon Smith, Justin Paige,  Brandon Price-Williams, and Andrew Baehre  will lose only Baehre to graduation.  Ireton earned a 5th place in the 4×100 relay in a time of :45.04, and an 8th place in the 4×400 relay with a time of 3:41.77.

The girls team was paced by Ricca Graham and Karen Gusmer. Junior Nicole Bond and Graham finished 7th and 8th respectively in the 200 meter dash in times of :26. 52 and :27.37.  Gusmer earned a 7th place finish in the 800 meters and ran as part of the 4×400 meter relay that snared a 6th place finish.  Graham added an 8th place finish in the 400 meter dash in a time of 1:01.87. Katie Necochea was a 6th place finisher in the grueling 3200 meters in a time of 12:51.42 to round out the scoring for Ireton.

Townley grabbed a third place in the 300 meter hurdles, a 6th in the 11o meter hurdles, and a third in the triple jump to lead the boys’ individual scoring.
