Cardinals’ pitchers combine for 1-0 win in 11 innings over PVI

The PVI bermuda grass isn't green yet, but the Cardinals blossomed in a 1-0 11 inning win over PVI Saturday in Fairfax.

The Bishop Ireton Cardinals didn’t provide Kyle Delaney with much offensive support, but he didn’t need much.

Delaney pitched eight strong innings to carry the  Cardinals  to a 1-0 win over Paul VI in 11 innings on Saturday at PVI’s Panther Field Saturday.

Robert Corallo helped the redbirds take the lead in the eleventh inning. With the game scoreless in the eleventh inning Chandler Wilder reached on an error, advanced to second on a base hit, and moved to third on a  base on balls, bringing  Corallo came to the plate.  The slick fielding second baseman worked anther  walk scoring Wilder.

Sean Workman recorded the win for Bishop Ireton. He pitched two shutout innings. He struck out two, walked one and surrendered no hits.

Yianni Tsiamis was charged with the hard luck loss. He pitched the final 3 2/3 innings, walked two, struck out six, and allowed the game’s only run.

The win staked Ireton to a 1-0 record in the WCAC, 2-1 overall with a road game at Gonzaga slated for Thursday at the new Nationals Park training facility in Anacostia.  Cardinals meet McNamara Saturday.
