Ireton girls rise to the challenge in 59-50 win over O’Connell

Grapplers storm to tourney win, 13 finish in top 4!

Ireton's Jeff Severini captured one of 6 championships the Cardinals won at the Nick Mason Memorial tournament at King George High School Saturday.

Bishop Ireton’s wrestlers dominated the 2012 edition of the Nick Mason Memorial Wrestling tournament held at King George High School near Richmond on Saturday. With 233 points, the Cardinals wrapped up the team title before the championship round began, with second place Washington & Lee High School finishing with 167.5 points.  Six Ireton grapplers earned championships in the redbirds first visit to King George.

Capturing individual titles for the Cambridge Road team was Darcy Gomez at 113, Jeff Severini at 132, Andrew Baehre at 145, Gibson Hawk at 170, Andrew Bladen at 182, and Andrew Lutterloh at 220.  Three other Cardinals made it to the finals, but finished second, including Mike Rodriguez at 152, Tommy Fessahye at 195 and Jimmy Keegan at 285.

Nick Womack, after being upset in his first match came back to garner a third place at 138, Ben Nagao likewise finished third at 160 while Conor Reilly (106), and Chris Macey (120) captured a 4th place finish for the Alexandrians.

“We wrestled very well,” said assistant coach, Kwinten Brown.  “I think we overall were better than we were at St Stephens, many of our guys had their best weekend of the season.”
